Protecting cetaceans from ADDs used on salmon farms

In 2021, Guy Linley-Adams continues to advise the Coastal Communities Network on the use of acoustic deterrent devices on salmon farms in Scotland and their potential to disturb cetaceans contrary to the law on European Protected Species. The use of ADDs where they risk disturbing cetaceans, can only be permitted if there are no satisfactory alternatives. A formal complaint to Environmental Standards Scotland is pending.
