OEP launches investigation into sewage following complaint submitted for Salmon & Trout Conservation

In mid-2021, in a detailed complaint, Guy referred Ofwat and the Secretary of State to the Interim Office for Environmental Protection in relation to their failure over many years to require and provide for sufficient investment in sewerage infrastructure from the water companies.

In June 2022, as a result of the complaint, the Office for Environmental Protection announced their first full investigation, into the Secretary of State’s, Ofwat’s and the Environment Agency’s  joint regulation of the water industry in relation to sewage discharges. The OEP will examine whether or not they have performed their environmental law obligations. OEP launches investigation into the regulation of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) | Office for Environmental Protection (theoep.org.uk)
