Scottish Government’s interim sea lice plans shown to be ineffective

Acting for Salmon & Trout Conservation Scotland, in 2021 Guy undertook research into effect of Environmental Management Plans being touted on Scottish salmon farms by the Scottish Government as an interim measure to protect wild salmonid fish from the effects of sea lice on fish farms.

Following three successive decisions against relevant District Salmon Fishery Boards – Decision 208/2021 | Scottish Information Commissioner (itspublicknowledge.info) Decision 005/2022 | Scottish Information Commissioner (itspublicknowledge.info) and Decision 008/2022 | Scottish Information Commissioner (itspublicknowledge.info) – after they refused to disclose the detail of what EMPs have achieved, information disclosed revealed that no EMPs have resulted in any changes to on-farm management of sea lice as a result of wild fish monitoring.

The EMPs, as Salmon & Trout Conservation Scotland said they would be, appear to be totally ineffective.
